The Essence of the American Dream

By: Andrew Schwartz

In the works the author tries to create something, to describe and to explain. Of the same ideas Scott Fitzgerald was full. He tried to compare two different types of the aristocracy in his work ‘The Great Gatsby’. These two types were formed in and after the process of the World War I.
The first one is an old aristocracy. One of the main characters of the book, Daisy, is a great example of such. They try to save some sum of money during long period of time, transfer it to the heirs, and it continues from each generation. The education and development of each members of the family is the same and make the necessary effect on them.
The opposite type of it is a fresh kind of aristocracy. The representative from this category is Jay Gatsby. They can earn money in very short period of time and to spend it as they want. They can easily accept different principles and be involved in different kinds of hustles such as bootlegging. Such category even can scrim in order to show that they also gain the success, and have as much rights as the ‘old’ aristocracy has. Probably you were born not in rich conditions and without any inheritance, but if it is possible to get something everyone has the right for it. Jay and Daisy loved each other, even if they were on different sides of one point, but it was a great example of how the ‘new’ aristocracy could gain the glory in the society.
It was proved that without an appropriate education and family roots it is possible to be happy. The results can be noticed in the process of funeral of Jay Gatsby. He took the blame of Myrtle’s death on himself and till the last minutes could not deny of his words. His true love was full of tragedies and emotions.
The Great Gatsby is a wonderful example of the American life on the beginning of XX century; this book helps to see the consequences of the World War I and the essence of the New American Dream.
